Discovery Island

Ok, whilst this is the track thread for From the Earth to the Moon, this background information needed to be shown.

Discovery Island is my own vision of how Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris could have been, had it stuck firmly with the Verne/H.G.Wells inspired Victorian retro-future theme.

The park will not be released as a park. Instead, once finished, each ride will be released as its own track thread and pov video. There will also be a prelude video which will show the walkthroughs, mini-rides and general scenery of the park.

There will be a few major rides, and a few smaller ones:

Rides:

From the Earth to the Moon (under construction - thread started) - Rollercoaster

Doctor Who: The Ride (under construction - thread started) - Dark ride/simulator hybrid

Around the World in 80 Days (under construction) - Soarin' type film OR dark ride (depends which I feel like later)

Journey to the Centre of the Earth (unconfirmed) - depending on my plans, this may or may not happen

Hall of Visionnaires

An exhibition of sciene, themed of course to Victorian/retro future. Exhibits include:
-Planetarium
-The Invisible Man
-Tesla Coil
-The Nautilus- Take a look inside Captain Nemo's famous submarine

Orbitron - Kids' ride (non-functional, since it's actually just CS made by Gadget).

Ok, so now we have that out of the way, here is the first update for From The Earth To The Moon

This is themed to Jules Verne's book De La Terre a La Lune, and is essentially Disney's Space Mountain ride in Paris, but without the metal mountain. It instead rests on the side of a real mountain in the heart of Discovery Island.

Very interesting! Once I finish my current projects I've been toying with a Discovery Bay idea, which shares the same Verne/Steampunk ideas. FTETTM without the mountain cocoon is a great idea!

It's funny you should say that Wagi, because a lot of the plans for Discovery Island involve elements of discovery bay (the original plans for Disneyland).

It's refreshing to see Gadget's Space Mountain set used in something that isn't a direct recreation of Space Mountain! It looks great on the side of the mountain but perhaps the tunnel supports could do with looking a bit more substantial?

Hmmm, you're right, now I look at it, they are a bit bare. I'll working in a more complex look, something a bit more industrial looking and substantial.

See, this is why I post projects here, people aren't afraid to criticise, and do it constructively.

EDIT: Gadget is a genius, and his work is outstanding. However, as I said at the time, I HATE that people now shove any old terrible space mountain ride into Gadget's Space Mountain, and automatically they get gushing praise. They don't deserve it.

I decided to do a From the Earth to the Moon version minus the mountain partially to reflect the story of the book and that set-up, and partially because I just didn't want to exploit the great things gadget did. I will use elements of his CS, but only in the Nautilus and Cannon. The rest will be other CS and my own effects.

I'm glad he did his Space Mountain, but it has strangled the creativity out of some users.

Wow, that first video shows that the pictures really don't do this justice!!! It's so immersive, definitely something you'd see at a real theme park. I've probably mentioned it before but I didn't think anyone would be able to use Gadget's scenery well for anything BUT its original purpose. You've used it brilliantly.

By the way, I love those opening doors with the electricity everywhere, on the POV.

Thanks guys! Gadget's scenery is brilliant, but most regular RCT3 users forgot to use imagination when being spoon-fed such good scenery. This is what using Non-CS does to the mind, makes you more creative
