This is my first Halo 3 machinima. Whilst it is most probably my last, I would love to share it with you.

This video took 11 months to make. Whilst the video has little plot and makes no sense, its hard to describe the feeling when nearly a whole years work finally gets posted. Although it is cleft standard **** any insults would be greatly appreaciated.

It was crude and mildly offensive. Nor did I understand it. Well done on your work, however.

I was offended even before I read a single word on your original post...that avatar alone was enough to get me started. But against my better judgement, I actually watched most of it (even I have my limits...).

I'm sure your mother must be proud. No doubt 'film director' will now join 'doctor', 'lawyer' and even 'gainfully employed' on the pile of broken dreams you've left at her feet. Mad Thumbs Up

It is a shame that the language was as it was used. The swearing just seemed.....so unnecessary.

Unless your friends are black and live in urban America, the use of 'hey n****r" tends to really bother me...alot It's a stereotype for one, and the 'n' word is considered terribly racist in the States for another. I know it wasn't your intention to offend, as far as I'm concerned there's no reason to take it down.

I can appreciate the fact that you worked on something for eleven months, I commend you for that.

But as you admit, there's little plot and it makes no sense. Combine that with the use of cuss words in place of any actual dialogue, and that's likely why perhaps the comments here aren't what you hoped for. Don't take it badly, I'm sure we can appreciate the work that went into it even if the finished project wasn't to our personal liking, I know I do. Thumbs Up

Besides what Wagi already said, the one thing that really got to me was the complete lack of character identity.

The problem with Halo machinima is that nobody's mouth moves, and when you've got 4 characters on screen, it's nigh impossible to tell which one is supposedly producing the voice. This combined with the total lack of individuality to the characters (there was the sweary posh one, the sweary whispery slightly asian one, the sweary one and the other sweary one) I could never tell which voice was who.

The swearing, I think, would have been much more appropriate and possibly even quite funny if it had all been confined to just one character (though without such copious use of the N-word in particular) rather than every character conversing through swears alone.

For future projects, keep just one character on screen when they are speaking, at least for the first time they do speak, so we can tell which voice is which character. Also, stay out of Team Deatmatches, because everyone suddenly turning red and blue instead of their normal colours was a hell of a way to throw away any previously established character recognition.

Also, don't be afraid to vary the voice acting more wildly, draft in some people of different nationalities and ages, as the range of voices you can use increases, more characters can be introduced.

TL;DR - What Wagi said + only (maximum) one sweary bloke, vary voices and characteristics more, one person on screen at a time when they speak.

I didn't particularly want to use my friend, but he did stick with my shenanigans for 11months. I won't ask for his help again. This was just more of a test for a much better (hopefully) machinima when reach is released. The lack of a decent plot was due to the fact that I only could get 10 minutes of footage a month. I need to get a pal 60 capture card first.

Why could you only get 10 minutes a month?

Possibly something to do with framerate of capture, like RCT3's famous problem?

I suggest coming up with a plot and script before doing it again as this will give you something to aim towards for your footage!

Ah, well the '10 minute problem' was really the problem that made this thing so unprofessional. I bought to capture cards, none of which capture the 360's unique PAL60 format (same goes for PS3) So my signal was either black and white, or disorted colour. Sometimes its not the capture card at fault, rather the driver.

Anyway, for a long time the project stalled due to lack of good quality captured footage. The Bungie released a service where if you had Bungie Pro they would render (capture) your videos. Each month you were given 5 minutes. So I bought myself Bungie Pro, and started collecting footage. 5minutes a month was not fast enough, so I created a dummy account with Bungie Pro (its not at all expensive), Making an overall 10minutes. If you live in america, you can buy over 250 minutes....I dont live in america...MadThumbs Up

I really couldn't work at a clip until it was perfect, you may have noticed some bad camerawork throughout the video.

Currently, right now I am looking for capture cards that I know will work.

@ Jermery

Yes, making a Halo 3 video is somewhat difficult. When I started I had no idea of what lay in front of me. Some people are able to make sure you know who is talking through either camerawork or known voices

The use of the word faggot and wonderful person of African descent is irresponsible in this "movie" that you made.

Once again I apologise, it was silly of me to post it. I will remove the link. However I am open to questions about why it took so long, the technical aspect of it.

I advise creating a script before you do such a thing again. Cut down on the swearing or remove it entirely (our swear filter would have made it hilarious) so that the story becomes the main focus. When you have a script, you can plan individual scenes (and camera shots within each scene) and it will make your 10 minute sessions far more productive.

We shall be waiting to view the new version - and some of us might even supply voices for you so that they don't all sound so similar!

Instead of real insults, you could also try and make up some of your own insults.

Like: 'your parents are four-eyed monsters' or something like that. Or: 'potatohead'. Be creative, but make it less offensive.

I can reveal that a new series is in beginning phases. Firstly, I am trying to get a new capture card to work, if not, I may have to buy one, or a DVD recorder.

Assuming I get a working capture card, we were planning a 5 part series with shorter and more concise details. We are hoping to do some form of A-Team spoof (A'lo-Team or H-Team) where a variety of characters go around fixing problems. We will be filming it in Halo: Reach. This wont be around until september so we have plenty of time to prepare a good script, gather some actors ect..

Some of the characters I had imaginned were:
-A Sarge
-Some 'Thug' guy (as in dumb brute)
-A good pilot
-Some 'The Doctor' guy. Flys around in box that is able to teleport between halo games.

Any Ideas from the some of the comical genius' here would be lovely. I like the Idea of a swear filter, comment noted.
